Pros and Cons of the Under Sink Drinking Water Filter System
Pros:
Comprehensive Filtration: Reduces a wide range of contaminants, including heavy metals, bacteria, pharmaceuticals, and more.
NSF/ANSI Certified: Meets stringent standards for water quality and safety.
Retains Essential Minerals: Does not remove essential minerals like Calcium and Magnesium.
Easy Installation: Comes with all necessary components for straightforward under-sink installation.
Long Filter Life: Each filter lasts up to 6 months, handling up to 10,000 litres of water.
Cons:
Does Not Reduce TDS: Since the filter does not remove essential minerals, it does not reduce Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).
Requires Regular Replacement: Filter needs replacement every 6 months to maintain performance.
FAQs
1. What contaminants does this filter reduce?
This filter reduces contaminants including fluoride, chlorine, heavy metals, bacteria, pharmaceuticals, hormones, PFOA/PFOS, and microplastics.
2. Does this filter remove Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)?
No, this filter does not remove essential minerals like Calcium and Magnesium, so it does not reduce TDS levels.
3. How long does the filter last?
The filter life is up to 6 months, depending on water usage and quality, or up to 10,000 litres.
4. Is the filter system easy to install?
Yes, the system comes with all necessary components for easy under-sink installation.
5. Are the filters NSF/ANSI certified?
Yes, the filters meet NSF/ANSI 42, 53, and P231 standards for water quality and safety.
6. Does the filter affect the water's mineral content?
No, the filter retains essential minerals like Calcium and Magnesium, ensuring the water remains healthy and safe for drinking.
7. How often should I replace the filter?
Filters should be replaced every 6 months or after filtering 10,000 litres of water.
8. What size is the filter housing?
The filter housing is a standard 10 inches in height and 2.5 inches in diameter.
9. Does the system come with a tap?
Yes, the system includes an AT2S Tap with a 1/4" tube.
10. Can I test the water quality with a TDS meter?
A TDS meter is not appropriate for testing this filter’s effectiveness, as it does not remove minerals, which are part of the TDS.
Note from the factory regarding Concrete and Asbestos from our gravity filters:
The ceramic is rated for Class I particle reduction, meaning we reduce particles between 1-5 microns by at least 85%. This is the highest class you achieve under NSF regulations.
Concrete particles are typically 10-20 microns, which would fall above our rating and, as such, should be removed. They may require the filter to be cleaned more regularly, however, depending on how dusty the water is.
Asbestos fibres however range from 0.1-10 microns in length, with a diameter of 0.03 microns. Although we probably remove some of the larger fibres, we must advise that our filters therefore do not remove Asbestos.
These filters do not reduce TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) TDS are made up of essential minerals, essential for Healthy Water and these filters DO NOT remove minerals such as Calcium or Magnesium. They remove Chemical contaminants as well a whole range of bacteria and water borne cysts. Checking with a TDS meter is not an appropriate test for these filters - as there are no contaminants in the filtered water from our filters, you may actually produce a higher, more accurate TDS reading.
